Dr Shahid Zaman MBChB (Sheffield), PhD (Cantab), MD (Cantab), FRCP, FRCPsych is a NHS psychiatrist with extensive clinical experience who is pleased to offer psychiatric consultations and treatment to adults affected by a broad range of conditions.
With over twenty years of experience as a medical doctor, Dr Zaman has expertise in helping people who may have the following conditions:
- ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (including, Asperger’s)
- Neuropsychiatric consequences of brain injury (emotional and behavioural problems and seizures)
Dr Zaman believes that the best outcomes are only achieved with a holistic view of health incorporating both the physical and mental perspective. He is possibly unique in this respect as he trained in psychiatry and general medicine allowing him to take a broader perspective. Implicit to his approach is the importance he places in establishing a trusting, respectful, empathic and therapeutic relationship with his patients
Dr Shahid Zaman qualified with a medical degree from the University of Sheffield. From Yorkshire, where he grew up, he ventured to the University of Cambridge where he undertook research on Valium-like drugs used in anxiety and sleep. He also trained in general medicine before leaving for New York, USA as a Wellcome Trust International Research Fellow.
Prior to his current NHS post in Cambridge, he spent a year in Sydney, Australia as a neuropsychiatrist. He completed his training in psychiatry/neuropsychiatry at The Institute of Psychiatry at The Maudsley Hospital, London.
At the University of Cambridge Dr Zaman continues to lead international research projects in neuropsychiatry and publish extensively in the scientific and medical literature.
Dr Zaman was elected as Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2017 and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2018.
An initial assessment involves a face-to-face consultation are charged £218 per hour and can last up to 2 hours. Depending on the complexity of the case, a longer assessment may be necessary. Follow-up appointments usually last 30 minutes and are charged £140.
Dr Zaman will not charge for informal advice or follow-up.
